Remow has revealed a new key visual, trailer, staff, and additional characters for the upcoming Tougen Anki TV anime series. The anime will premiere in Japan sometime in July 2025 and international platforms streaming the series will be announced at a later date.
The new visual features main characters Shiki Ichinose, Jin Kougasaki, and Naito Mudano unleashing their Oni powers known as “Blood Eclipse Release.” The trailer also confirms the addition of five new students from the Oni school Rasetsu Academy. The additional cast voice these characters include:
• Manaka Iwami as Homare Byobugaura
• Shogo Sakata as Ikari Yaoroshi
• Natsuki Hanae as Juji Yusurube
• Kaito Miura as Rokuro Kiriyama
• Aimi as Kuina Sazanami
They join a main voice cast that stars Kazuki Ura as Shiki Ichinose, Hiroshi Kamiya as Naito Mudano, and Kotaro Nishiyama as Jin Kogasaki.
Ato Nonaka is directing the anime series, with Hiroyuki Hashimoto (ESTAB LIFE: Great Escape) as assistant director, Yukie Sugawara (Overlord, Combatants Will Be Dispatched!) as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, Ryoko Amisaki (Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School: Future Arc) as character designer, and KOHTA YAMAMOTO (Attack on Titan: The Final Season) as music composer. Studio HIBARI is in charge of the animation production.
Other staff include Hiroyuki Becchaku as art designer, Scott MacDonald (Tasokare Hotel, Love All Play) as art director, Saki Tada (Astra Lost in Space) as color designer, Naoki Serizawa as composite director, Ryota Fukushima as CG director, and Satoki Iida (BanG Dream! Season 2-3) as sound director.
The original dark fantasy adventure manga series by Yura Urushibara began serialization in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion on June 11, 2020 and has released 22 tankobon volumes as of January 2025. Yen Press releases the manga in English under the title Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood.
The manga previously inspired a 2024 stage play adaptation, which is described as the first phase of the Tougen Anki project (the anime adaptation is the second phase).
Synopsis:
The bloodlines of “Oni” and “Momotaro” have been passed down among certain humans for generations. Long ago, the Oni, aware of their own ferocity, lived in seclusion. However, their peace was shattered by an invasion led by Momotaro. Over thousands of years, these two factions formed the “Momotaro Agency” and the “Oni Agency,” respectively, and have been locked in conflict ever since.
The protagonist, Shiki Ichinose, suddenly learns of his Oni lineage following an unexpected attack by Momotaro. This revelation sets Shiki on a path to discover the destiny that lies within his blood — a meeting with the Oni dwelling within him.
