Claymore Dark Fantasy Manga Series Receives Live-Action TV Adaptation

Deadline is reporting that a live-action TV adaptation of Norihiro Yagi’s Claymore manga is in development, with actor/producer Masi Oka attached to the project as executive producer. CBS Studios and Propagate Content are developing the live-action series in partnership with Shueisha.

Besides Oka, other executive producers that are involved in the project include Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Propagate Content’s Rodney Ferrell. The search for the series’ head writer is currently underway.

Yagi first launched the original Claymore dark fantasy manga series on June 6, 2001 in Shueisha’s Monthly Shonen Jump magazine, before it ceased publication on June 6, 2007. The series resumed in Jump Square on November 2, 2007 until its conclusion on October 4, 2014. A total of 27 tankobon volumes were released during its publication. VIZ Media releases the manga in English for North America.

The manga inspired a 26-episode TV anime series from Madhouse in 2007. Funimation licensed the series for release in English and is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. A Nintendo DS video game titled Claymore: Gingan no Majo was also released in Japan on May 28, 2009.
