Tokyo Ghoul protagonist Kaneki Ken is to be Dead by Daylight‘s next crossover character.
Kaneki is currently part of the asymmetric multiplayer horror game’s 8.6.0 Public Test Build on Steam, and the PlayStation Blog says that he’ll join the game proper on April 2. He’s known in-game as The Ghoul, and the Dead by Daylight website explains how he became one of the game’s killers instead of walking down the paths he did in the manga/anime.
When one is pushed to the brink of pain, subjected to cruelty beyond measure, it’s only a matter of time before one finds renewed purpose in the abyss. In the process of surviving his brutal torture at the hands of Jason, Kaneki came to terms with the terrifying nature of the ghoul within him, using it to defeat his tormentor.
His release from one nightmare saw him pulled directly into another, as The Entity chose this moment to lure Kaneki into The Fog, transforming him into a cruel killing machine. Everything from his appearance to his demeanor has been affected, fueled by an insatiable appetite for human flesh. As fate would have it, there will be plenty to feast on in The Fog.
In Dead by Daylight, Kaneki has the Kagune Leap and Enraged Mode special abilities. Simply put, he can use his Kagune to bound around the map and can grab-attack Survivors with his second consecutive leap. Grab-attacking activates Enraged Mode, which increases the maximum number of consecutive Kagune Leaps to three and lets him vault faster when targeting Survivors with the kagune.
Kaneki also comes with the Nothing But Misery Hex Perk and the Forever Entwined and None Are Free Perks. According to PlayStation Blog, there Perks “incentivize players to keep up the pressure and inflict damage on Survivors.” For more on the abilities and Perks’ effects and rules, check out the patch notes here.
Aside from these, PlayStation Blog mentions that there are original voice lines from Natsuki Hanae. Meanwhile, the Japanese press release says that the Kaneki content is part of a Chapter called The Ghoul’s Kagune Tentacles, and that there will also be a Tokyo Ghoul Collection with the following cosmetics.
